West Sacramento has a Council/Manager form of government. Citizens elect four City Council Members at large who serve 4 year terms and directly elect the mayor who serves a 2-year term. The City currently holds elections on the first Tuesday of November in even numbered years.

Addressing the City Council at a Council Meeting
The City Council meeting will be conducted via teleconference pursuant to Government Code section 54953(e). On October 20, 2021, the City Council adopted Resolution 21-80 confirming that a statewide state of emergency continues to exist because of COVID-19 virus pandemic, and that the Yolo County Public Health Officer continues to recommend measures to promote social distancing. The Council and City staff shall take all actions required by Section 54953(e) to protect public access and right to comment. Anyone wishing to address the Council should submit comments in writing by 6:00 PM on the day of the meeting by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and writing “Public Comment” and the Item Number in the subject line. For comments about something that is not on the current agenda, please note the comment is under Item 1A. All comments received by 6:00 PM will be provided to the City Council and posted on the website. The comments submitted shall become part of the record of the meeting. The Council will not make comments or take action regarding your subject matter, but may address it at a later date or assign it to staff for further follow-up.
